Understanding REIKI and What to Expect at Your REIKI Session
Reiki is a great place to start your health and wellness journey.
You may have heard the term ‘REIKI’, but not quite sure what exactly REIKI is or what it does.
Let me first explain, WHAT IS REIKI?
REIKI is an alternative form of medicine considered ‘energy healing’ to balance mental, emotional, spiritual and physical ailments, which aids in relaxation, assists in the body’s natural healing process, helps people cope with physical and mental difficulties and provides overall wellbeing for mind, body and soul.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So putting those two meanings together, Reiki is "spiritually guided life force energy."
Reiki is a Japanese technique based on the principle that a REIKI Practitioner can transfer life force energy to a client by palm healing or hands on healing.
Everyone’s life force energy flows through the body by way of pathways: chakras and meridians
If your "life force energy" is low, then you are more likely to feel sluggish, get sick or feel stressed, and if it is high, you are more likely to feel alert, happy and healthy. REIKI heals the affected or blocked parts of the energy fields (Chakras and Meridians) by clearing negativity and replacing with positive energy.
REIKI works hand in hand with other alternative, medical or therapeutic treatments to promote healing and recovery.
What to expect at your Reiki Session:
A REIKI session can be a different experience for each person. You are fully clothed for your session, so I would recommend wearing comfortable clothes. You will be asked to remove eyeglasses, shoes and jewelry.
Before your session begins, your goals for the session should be discussed and completing a medical history should be required. You will lie on the massage or treatment table, fully clothed, face up.
Soft music intended for a Reiki Healing Session will play in the background. Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch with hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head, neck, front and back of the torso. The placement of the hands are never intrusive or inappropriate or with any pressure. Additional placements on the limbs can be done. The practitioner’s hands can be just off the body if needed (for example, in the presence of an open wound or burn)
The experience of Reiki is sometimes very subtle and other times very pronounced. You could experience heat or a tingling sensation from the practitioner's hands or sometimes the practitioner's hands will feel cool.
Other common experiences are light pulsations on hand placement or pulsations felt throughout the body.
